Today, on April 5, the Executive Committee of the Lviv City Council approved the project documentation for the rehabilitation of Hrybovychi landfill. This is one of the decisions that makes start of the works on the site closer.

“Lviv has devoted a lot of efforts to begin rehabilitation as soon as possible and to rebuild the territory of the landfill, to return it into land use and minimize its harmful effects. For the first time in all these years the city has got a real chance to solve the problem and with the help of the EBRD to rehabilitate landfill by the European model”,- said Vadym Nozdria, Director of the LCE “Green City”.

To solve a problem of waste and for the rehabilitation of Hrybovychi landfill, city received a loan of EUR 25 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a grant of EUR 10 million – irrevocable financial assistance from environmental funds. The city contribution is 6.75 million euros.

Project documentation for Hrybovychi landfill received a positive expert report on November 12, 2018. The expertise was conducted by the State Enterprise “State Scientific, Research, Design and Project Institute “NDIPROEKTREKONSTRUCTSIA”.

Recall that the Hrybovychi landfill is being prepared for a complex rehabilitation, which will take place in two stages. It’s a part of a comprehensive plan for solving problem of solid household waste management in Lviv. In two years, in the city will be build the first in          Ukraine modern waste treatment complex with the European technology of mechanical and biological treatment, rehabilitated the old landfill and introduced new waste management system. It will provide sorting of dry and wet waste, secondary raw materials and arrangement of separate areas for collecting electronics, large-sized and construction waste. Already this year will open a compost station for organic waste.
